County Administration and Operations
Office Overview
The Office of the Chief of Staff (also known as the Chief Clerk) serves as the primary administrative arm for the Dauphin County Board of Commissioners. Located in the Administration Building on South 2nd Street, this office manages the day-to-day operations of the county government. The Chief of Staff acts as the liaison between the elected Commissioners and the various county departments, ensuring that policy decisions are implemented efficiently and that government services are delivered effectively to residents.
Key Responsibilities
As the central operational hub, this office handles a broad range of administrative functions:
- Policy Implementation: Executing the strategic goals and ordinances established by the Board of Commissioners.
- Budget Oversight: Assisting in the preparation and management of the county’s annual budget to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Department Coordination: Facilitating communication and collaboration between human services, public safety, and administrative departments.
- Public Records: Often serving as a point of contact for official county records and Right-to-Know requests managed by the Open Records Officer.
Constituent Services
While the Commissioners are the public face of the county, the Chief of Staff’s office often handles constituent inquiries and administrative complaints. Residents contacting the county government with general concerns that do not fall under a specific department’s jurisdiction are frequently routed through this office for resolution.
Location and Access
The office is located on the 4th floor of the Dauphin County Administration Building. Access to the building requires passing through security screening, including metal detectors. Visitors wishing to meet with the Chief of Staff or the Commissioners typically require a scheduled appointment.
