Overview
Protecting America’s Railroad
Department Overview
The Amtrak Police Department (APD) maintains a strategic presence at the Harrisburg Transportation Center, one of the busiest rail hubs in Pennsylvania. This federal law enforcement agency is dedicated to protecting the passengers, employees, and infrastructure of the national passenger railroad corporation. Unlike local municipal police, Amtrak Police have a unique jurisdiction that spans the railroad’s national network. Officers stationed in Harrisburg are responsible for patrolling the station, platforms, and rights-of-way, ensuring a safe and secure environment for the thousands of commuters traveling the Keystone Corridor daily.
Safety and Security Operations

- Station Patrol: Maintaining high visibility within the Harrisburg Transportation Center to prevent crime.
- Incident Response: Responding to emergencies, trespassing reports, and safety hazards along the tracks.
- Agency Cooperation: Working closely with Harrisburg City Police and other regional agencies on joint safety initiatives.
