Overview
Harrisburg Bureau of Police
Public Safety and Law Enforcement
The Harrisburg Bureau of Police, headquartered in the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. City Government Center, is the primary law enforcement agency for the City of Harrisburg. Dedicated to the philosophy of community-oriented policing, the bureau works 24/7 to protect life and property, prevent crime, and apprehend offenders. The department is comprised of several specialized divisions, including Uniformed Patrol, Criminal Investigation, and the Street Crimes Unit, all working in tandem to address the unique challenges of an urban environment.
- Uniformed Patrol: The visible backbone of the force, responding to 911 calls, conducting traffic stops, and patrolling neighborhoods.
- Criminal Investigation Division (CID): Detectives tasked with solving serious crimes such as homicides, robberies, and sexual assaults.
- Parking Enforcement: Managing residential parking permits and enforcing city parking ordinances (office located on the 2nd floor).
- Records Center: Providing accident reports and background checks to the public during business hours.
Records and Services
The Records Division is located on the 2nd floor and is open to the public for obtaining copies of police reports. Residents should note that payment for these services is typically required via check or money order at the window, or cash at the City Treasurer’s office. The bureau also participates in the CRIMEWATCH network, allowing citizens to view crime mapping and submit anonymous tips online. 🚓 👮♂️ 🚨
