Overview
Specialized Tactical Operations
The facility on Bretz Drive serves as a critical training and operational hub for the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), specifically housing elements of the Bureau of Emergency and Special Operations (BESO). This location is distinct from the main headquarters and serves as the home for high-level tactical units, including the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) and the Hazardous Device and Explosives Section. The site is equipped for advanced firearms training, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) exercises, and specialized canine handling.
EOD and Safety Training
The Hazardous Device and Explosives Section stationed here provides statewide coverage for the neutralization of explosive threats. The facility includes ranges and training grounds where troopers maintain proficiency in the use of specialized equipment, robotics, and firearms. This location plays a pivotal role in the state’s counter-terrorism and emergency response infrastructure, ensuring that specialized teams are ready to deploy rapidly to high-risk incidents anywhere in the Commonwealth.
Restricted Access Facility
Unlike public-facing police stations, this facility is a restricted training and operational site. It is not open to the general public for report filing, records requests, or tours. The perimeter is secured to ensure the safety of the personnel and the sensitive nature of the equipment and training stored on-site. Unauthorized entry is strictly prohibited. The complex is located in West Hanover Township, on the outskirts of Harrisburg, providing the necessary space and isolation for tactical maneuvers and live-fire exercises.
