Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission
The Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission (CVRPC) is a regional planning organization serving twenty-three municipalities in Washington and Orange Counties. Founded in 1967 and located in downtown Montpelier, the CVRPC acts as a vital link between local municipalities and the state government. The Commission is governed by representatives appointed from each member town and works to address regional issues such as land use, transportation, and economic development. It provides a forum for communities to resolve common problems and coordinate future growth effectively.
Core Services
- Municipal Assistance: Provides technical support to town officials in developing and updating municipal plans, zoning bylaws, and subdivision regulations.
- Regional Planning: Maintains the Regional Plan, which guides development and is used in the Act 250 review process for major projects.
- Transportation Planning: Coordinates with the Vermont Agency of Transportation to prioritize regional paving, bridge, and transit projects.
- GIS Services: Offers Geographic Information System mapping and data analysis to member towns and the public.
- Emergency Management: Assists towns with local hazard mitigation plans and emergency operations planning.
Office Information
The CVRPC office is located at 29 Main Street, Suite 4. The office is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Visitors can access regional maps, planning documents, and data resources. The Commission holds regular monthly meetings which are open to the public, fostering transparency and community engagement in the planning process.
