Overview

Mission and Purpose

The Vermont Office of Veterans Affairs (VA) is the primary state agency dedicated to advocating for and assisting the nearly 40,000 veterans who call Vermont home. Located in the capital city of Montpelier, the office works to ensure that veterans and their families receive the state and federal benefits they have earned through their service. The agency serves as a bridge between local veterans and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, helping to navigate the complex claims process and access healthcare, education, and compensation.

Benefits Advocacy: Accredited Service Officers assist veterans in filing claims for disability compensation, pension, and other federal benefits.
Memorial Services: Manages the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, providing dignified burials for eligible veterans and spouses.
Records and Recognition: Maintains military discharge records (DD-214) and administers the Vermont Veterans Medal program to honor service members.
Assistance Programs: Oversees the Vermont Veterans Assistance Fund and provides referrals for housing, employment, and mental health resources.
