Overview
About the Bridgeport Fire Department
The Bridgeport Fire Department (BFD) Headquarters is located at 30 Congress Street in the heart of downtown. This facility serves as the administrative command center for the city’s fire services, housing the Office of the Fire Chief and the Fire Marshal’s Division. While the Office of Emergency Management (Civil Preparedness) has operations at a separate facility, the Fire Department Headquarters remains the central hub for strategic planning, fire prevention enforcement, and the coordination of emergency medical services (EMS) and hazardous material responses for Connecticut’s largest city.
Services and Divisions
The headquarters handles administrative and regulatory functions distinct from the operational fire stations:
- Fire Marshal Division: Responsible for code enforcement, building inspections, and arson investigations.
- Fire Prevention: Issuing permits for blasting, fireworks, and reviewing construction plans for fire safety compliance.
- Records and Reports: Residents and insurance companies can obtain fire incident reports here.
- Community Outreach: Managing the distribution of free smoke alarms and organizing fire safety education programs.
Visit and Safety Information
Access to the administrative offices on the upper floors of the headquarters is restricted. Visitors typically need to check in at the lobby. Valid photo identification is required for entry into secure areas. While this is a public safety building, it does not serve as a walk-in clinic; for medical emergencies, please dial 911. The department also reminds residents that recruitment for firefighter positions is managed through the Civil Service Commission at City Hall, not directly at this station. 🏛️🚒🚑🔥👨🚒📋🚫💣
