The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC) in Hartford is located at 135 High Street in the William R. Cotter Federal Building. This facility provides in-person assistance for tax issues that cannot be resolved online or over the phone. Important: All visits to this office are by appointment only. Taxpayers must call 844-545-5640 to schedule a time. This center does not prepare tax returns; instead, it focuses on administrative resolutions and identity verification.

Security and Entry
Visitors are subject to airport-style security screening. Valid government-issued photo identification is mandatory for entry and for receiving service. Prohibited items include weapons of any kind, excessive bags, and food/drink. Cell phones may be brought in but must be turned off or silenced during your appointment. Parking is limited near the federal building; public garages or metered street parking are the best options.
