- Jurisdiction: Handles removal proceedings and asylum cases for Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
- Location: Located in downtown Chicago at 55 E Monroe St, Suite 1500 (15th Floor).
- Functions: Conducts master calendar hearings, individual merits hearings, and bond redetermination hearings.
- Security: Airport-style security screening required. Cameras and recording devices are strictly prohibited.
The Chicago Immigration Court falls under the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), a sub-agency of the Department of Justice. It adjudicates immigration cases, determining whether foreign-born individuals who are charged by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with violating immigration law should be ordered removed from the United States or should be granted relief or protection from removal.
Important Information
- Hearings: Arrive at least 30 minutes early. Interpreters are generally provided for hearings if needed.
- Filing: Window filing hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Many documents must be filed through the ECAS online portal.
- Prohibited Items: No food or drinks allowed in the waiting area or courtrooms.
