Overview
MassParks (DCR Headquarters)
MassParks is the public-facing brand for the extensive system of state parks, forests, and beaches managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). The headquarters, located at 251 Causeway Street in Boston, serves as the administrative center for the agency. DCR oversees more than 450,000 acres of public land, protecting the Commonwealth’s natural resources while providing diverse recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
Administrative Services
- Park Passes: Management and distribution of the Annual MassParks Pass, which provides parking access to state facilities.
- Permitting: Issuance of special use permits for events, film production, and scientific research within state parks.
- Conservation Planning: Development of resource management plans for watersheds, forests, and coastal zones.
- Recreation Management: Oversight of state swimming pools, skating rinks, campgrounds, and hiking trail networks.
Location & Access
The DCR headquarters is situated in the North Station area, sharing a building with other environmental agencies. While this office handles high-level administration and planning, it is also a point of contact for purchasing passes or seeking information about specific park rules. Visitors must pass through security screening. Public parking is limited to nearby paid garages, but the location is directly adjacent to North Station, making public transit the most convenient option.
