About MassPRIM
The Pension Reserves Investment Management (PRIM) Board is the state entity responsible for investing the assets of the Pension Reserves Investment Trust (PRIT) Fund. Located in the Financial District at 84 State Street, MassPRIM’s mission is to generate strong risk-adjusted investment returns to help the Commonwealth meet its pension obligations to current and future retirees. The Board acts as a professional investment management organization, overseeing a diverse portfolio that supports the Massachusetts State Employees’ Retirement System and the Massachusetts Teachers’ Retirement System, among others.
Investment Functions
MassPRIM manages a multi-billion dollar portfolio with a strategy focused on long-term growth and stability. Key functions include:
- Asset Allocation: Determining the optimal mix of investments across global equities, fixed income, private equity, real estate, and timberland.
- Manager Selection: Hiring and monitoring external investment managers to handle specific asset classes.
- Stewardship: Ensuring fulfilling fiduciary duties to the beneficiaries of the state’s retirement systems.
