Campus Safety and Law Enforcement
The Worcester State University Campus Police Department is a full-service, fully sworn state law enforcement agency dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the department is located in Wasylean Hall and possesses full police powers and authority throughout the campus and its immediate surroundings. The officers are trained to handle a wide range of incidents, from medical emergencies to criminal investigations, ensuring the well-being of the university community.
Core Services
- Emergency Response: providing immediate response to crimes, medical calls, and fire alarms on campus property.
- Patrol Operations: conducting regular patrols by foot, cruiser, and bicycle to deter crime and monitor campus activity.
- Crime Prevention: offering educational programs, self-defense classes, and safety escorts for students and staff walking on campus at night.
- Traffic and Parking: enforcing university parking regulations and traffic laws to ensure orderly flow and safety on campus roadways.
- Emergency Notification: managing the WSU Alert system to quickly disseminate critical information during campus emergencies or weather closures.
Community Guidelines
The department emphasizes community policing and encourages the reporting of suspicious activity. Blue light emergency phones are strategically located throughout the campus for direct connection to the dispatch center. Students are encouraged to carry their OneCard ID at all times. The police department also handles lost and found items and provides assistance with vehicle lockouts on campus. Strict policies prohibit weapons and illegal substances on university grounds.
