Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Division
The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Division is a specialized unit within the New Hampshire Department of State, located in the State House Annex at 25 Capitol Street in Concord, New Hampshire. This office serves as the central filing office for public notices of secured transactions. It plays a critical role in the state’s economy by maintaining the registry of liens on personal property, which establishes the priority of claims for creditors in the event of debtor default or bankruptcy.
Filing and Search Services
- UCC Financing Statements: Lenders file UCC-1 financing statements here to perfect security interests in collateral such as equipment, inventory, and accounts receivable.
- Lien Searches: The division provides certified searches of the UCC index, helping businesses and individuals perform due diligence before entering into financial agreements.
- Other Statutory Liens: In addition to UCC filings, the office records federal tax liens, state tax liens, aircraft registration liens, and writs of attachment.
Online and In-Person Access
While the physical office is open for filings and searches, the Department of State encourages the use of NH QuickStart, the state’s online platform. Through QuickStart, users can file documents and conduct searches 24/7. For paper filings, the office accepts specific forms (UCC-1, UCC-3) and payments via check or money order.
