Overview
State Tax Assistance and Compliance
The Newark Regional Information Center of the New Jersey Division of Taxation is located at 124 Halsey Street, serving as a primary point of contact for taxpayers in Essex County and the surrounding region. This office provides in-person assistance for a variety of state tax matters, helping individuals and business owners navigate the complexities of the New Jersey tax code. The staff assists with inquiries regarding Income Tax, Sales and Use Tax, and Corporation Business Tax, as well as resolving billing disputes and explaining audit notices.
Property Tax Relief Programs
A significant portion of the center’s work involves assisting residents with property tax relief applications, specifically the ANCHOR (Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters) program and the Senior Freeze (Property Tax Reimbursement). Representatives can help verify eligibility, check the status of applications, and assist seniors in filling out the necessary forms to freeze their property tax rates.
Visiting the Center
The office is situated on the 2nd floor of the 124 Halsey Street building, a major state government complex. Visitors must undergo security screening upon entry. While walk-ins are accepted, the division strongly encourages taxpayers to check the website for current wait times or to schedule an appointment if available, especially during the peak tax filing season (January through April). Please note that this office focuses on state taxes and does not handle federal IRS matters or local municipal property tax payments.
