Overview
General Overview
The U.S. Secret Service Philadelphia Field Office serves as the local hub for one of the nation’s oldest and most elite federal law enforcement agencies. Located within the William J. Green Jr. Federal Building at 600 Arch Street, this office executes the agency’s dual integrated mission: investigations and protection. While globally recognized for protecting the President, Vice President, and visiting heads of state, the Philadelphia Field Office plays a critical role in safeguarding the region’s financial infrastructure. Agents here investigate complex cyber-enabled financial crimes, counterfeit currency schemes, and major fraud cases that affect the Eastern Pennsylvania district.
Investigative Mission
The Philadelphia Field Office leads the Cyber Fraud Task Force (CFTF), a partnership between federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as the private sector and academia. This division focuses on:
- Financial Crimes: Investigating wire fraud, bank fraud, and credit card theft.
- Cybercrime: Combating ransomware, network intrusions, and business email compromise schemes.
- Counterfeiting: Continuing the agency’s original mandate to suppress the counterfeiting of U.S. currency and other government obligations.
Protective Mission
Beyond investigations, this office coordinates security for National Special Security Events (NSSE) held in the region and provides protection for protected persons visiting the Philadelphia area. This includes advance work for presidential visits and security coordination with local police departments like the PPD.
Access and Security
The field office is located in a high-security federal facility. It is not open to the public for tours and generally operates on an appointment-only basis for official business. Recruitment interviews and meetings with task force partners are scheduled in advance. Visitors must enter through the main security checkpoint of the William J. Green Jr. Building, where they will undergo airport-style screening. Valid government-issued identification is strictly required for entry.
Contact Information
For general inquiries or to report information regarding financial crimes or threats against protectees, the public can contact the duty desk at 215-861-3300. However, for immediate emergencies, citizens should always dial 911. Individuals seeking to apply for positions such as Special Agent or Uniformed Division Officer should visit the official website or USAJOBS, as applications are not accepted in person at the field office.
