The Department of Finance is the financial backbone of the City of Pittsburgh, located in the historic City-County Building on Grant Street. 🏛️ This department is responsible for the collection of all city taxes, management of city investments, and the administration of the city’s pension funds. The City Treasurer’s Office, a key division within the department, provides a public-facing counter where residents and business owners can handle tax matters in person.
Tax Services and Collections
- Real Estate Taxes: Collection of annual property taxes for the City and the School District of Pittsburgh.
- Earned Income & Local Services Tax (LST): Administration of wage taxes for individuals working within city limits.
- Business Taxes: Processing of the Payroll Expense Tax, Parking Tax, and Amusement Tax. 💼
- Treasurer’s Sales: Conducting sales of city-owned properties acquired through tax delinquency.
Payment Options
The Treasurer’s counter is located on the 1st Floor of the City-County Building. Payments can be made via cash, personal check, or money order. 💵 Credit and debit cards are generally not accepted at the counter for tax payments without a third-party processing fee, or users are directed to pay online. When visiting, ensure you have your tax bill or account number available to expedite service.
Building Access
Visitors must enter through the main security checkpoint at the Ross Street or Grant Street entrances. 👮 Metal detectors and bag checks are mandatory. The Finance Department administrative offices are located on the 2nd Floor, while the payment counters are on the 1st Floor.
