Overview
Legislative Body of Warwick
The Warwick City Council serves as the legislative branch of the city government, representing the interests of residents across nine distinctive wards. Composed of nine elected council members, this body is responsible for enacting ordinances, approving the annual municipal budget, and making key policy decisions that shape the community’s future. The Council works in conjunction with the Mayor to oversee city operations and ensure the efficient delivery of public services.
Meetings and Public Participation
Regular meetings of the City Council are typically held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:00 PM. These sessions take place in the Council Chambers located on the second floor of Warwick City Hall. Meetings are open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend to voice their opinions during designated public comment periods. Agendas and minutes are published in advance on the city’s official website to maintain transparency.
Location and History
The Council operates out of Warwick City Hall, a historic landmark located at 3275 Post Road. Designed in the Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styles, the building was constructed in the late 19th century and sits at the heart of the Apponaug village. Beyond legislative duties, the building houses various municipal departments, including the City Clerk, Tax Collector, and the Municipal Court.
