Overview
About the RI Farm Service Agency
The USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) maintains its Rhode Island State Office and the Warwick Service Center at 60 Quaker Lane. This federal office is the primary contact point for Rhode Island’s agricultural community, administering a vital safety net for farmers and ranchers. The agency oversees farm commodity programs, credit and loan services, and conservation initiatives funded by the Farm Bill. Co-located with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Rural Development (RD), this Service Center provides a one-stop shop for federal agricultural assistance in the state.
Loans and Financial Programs
The FSA offers various financial products to support agricultural operations, particularly for those unable to obtain commercial credit:
- Farm Ownership Loans: To purchase or enlarge a farm or ranch.
- Operating Loans: To purchase livestock, equipment, or feed.
- Microloans: Smaller loans designed to meet the needs of small and beginning farmers.
- Youth Loans: Educational loans for 4-H and FFA members to finance income-producing agricultural projects.
Disaster and Conservation Services
Beyond lending, the office manages the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), helping producers address environmental concerns. It also processes applications for disaster assistance programs following floods, droughts, or other natural events that impact production. Farmers are encouraged to file Acreage Reports here to remain eligible for these federal benefits.
Visit and Security Policy
As a federal facility, the Service Center enforces strict security measures. Visitors must present valid government-issued photo identification upon entry. While walk-ins are accepted for general inquiries, appointments are highly recommended for loan applications or complex program sign-ups to ensure staff availability. 🏛️🚜🌽🇺🇸📝🐄🔒
