The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) facility at 464 Warwick Industrial Drive houses the Providence Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) and Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON). Strategically located near Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD), this federal facility is responsible for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic in the vicinity of the airport and the surrounding airspace. The dedicated team of air traffic controllers manages aircraft movements on the ground and in the air, ensuring safety for thousands of daily passengers and flight crews.
Operational Functions
This facility operates as a critical node in the National Airspace System. Its primary functions include:
- Tower Control: Managing active runway operations, takeoffs, and landings at T.F. Green Airport.
- TRACON: Controlling aircraft in the approach and departure phases within a 30-40 mile radius of the airport.
- Technical Operations: Maintaining the complex radar, navigation, and communication systems required for aviation safety.
- Airmen Services: Limited administrative services, such as issuing 30-day temporary airman certificates, may be available by appointment only.
Security and Access Policy
As a critical infrastructure site, the Providence Tower maintains strict federal security protocols. The facility is not open to the general public for tours or casual visits.
