About the Warwick Police Department
The Warwick Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the City of Warwick, Rhode Island, serving a population of approximately 83,000 residents. 👮♂️ Headquartered at 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, adjacent to City Hall, this nationally accredited agency operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure public safety and order. The department is divided into several key bureaus, including the Patrol Division, which responds to emergency calls, and the Detective Division, which handles criminal investigations. 🚔 Beyond enforcement, the department emphasizes community engagement through its Community Police Division and School Resource Officers.
Records and VIN Checks
The Records Division is the main point of contact for administrative services. It is open to the public Monday through Friday. Key services include:
- VIN Checks: The department performs Vehicle Identification Number checks for Warwick residents and businesses only. These are conducted on Tuesdays (3:00 PM – 7:00 PM) and Saturdays (7:00 AM – 11:00 AM) at the shed near the public boat ramp. The fee is $20, payable in CASH ONLY.
- Police Reports: Copies of accident and incident reports can be requested at the Records window. Note that accident reports are also available online via third-party portals.
- Fingerprinting: Employment and background check fingerprinting services are available by appointment through the Community Services Division.
Station Policies
Visitors to the police headquarters must adhere to strict security protocols. 🛑 Weapons are strictly prohibited inside the building. Valid photo identification is required for all services, including VIN checks and picking up reports. 📵 While the lobby is open 24/7 for emergencies, administrative windows (like Records and Licensing) operate on specific weekday schedules. If you are visiting for a VIN check, ensure you have your vehicle’s title and proof of residency ready to avoid delays.
