Fire Prevention and Safety Education
The Office of the City Fire Marshal is located within Fire Station 2 at 132 North Avenue. This division is the regulatory arm of the Burlington Fire Department, focused on preventing fires before they start through rigorous code enforcement and public education. The office also serves as the department’s Public Information hub, managing media relations and community outreach programs.
Code Compliance and Inspections
The Fire Marshal’s staff works closely with property owners, developers, and business operators to ensure buildings meet safety standards. Key services include:
- Plan Review: Examining construction plans for compliance with fire and life safety codes.
- Inspections: Conducting routine safety inspections of commercial properties and multi-family dwellings.
- Permitting: Issuing permits for fire alarm systems, sprinkler installations, and special events.
Public Education
A major component of this office’s mission is community risk reduction. They coordinate the ”Burlington Fire & Life Safety” education programs, which include visiting schools, offering fire extinguisher training, and running the Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program.
