Overview
Montpelier Public Works – Streets and Equipment
Streets Division
The Montpelier Public Works Department operates its primary Streets and Equipment Division facility at 783 Dog River Road. This operational hub is the nerve center for maintaining the city’s transportation infrastructure. The Streets Division is responsible for the repair and maintenance of over 50 miles of city roadways and 30 miles of sidewalks. Their duties include pothole patching, paving, street sweeping, and the critical task of winter snow removal and ice control to keep Montpelier moving safely.
Equipment and Fleet
This facility also houses the Equipment Division, which maintains the city’s diverse fleet of vehicles. From heavy-duty plow trucks and excavators to police cruisers and administrative vehicles, the fleet mechanics ensure that all municipal machinery is safe, operational, and ready for emergency response. The garage is equipped to handle complex repairs and routine maintenance for the entire city fleet.
Operations and Access
Unlike the administrative offices at City Hall, the Dog River Road facility is an active industrial site focused on field operations. It serves as the deployment point for crews handling storm emergencies, downed trees, and road closures. Access is restricted to authorized personnel and operational staff. Residents seeking permits, reporting non-emergency issues, or looking for administrative assistance should contact the Public Works administrative office at City Hall or use the city’s online reporting tools.
