Maine Department of Technology Services (MaineIT)
The Maine Department of Technology Services, commonly known as MaineIT, is the centralized information technology agency for the State of Maine’s Executive Branch. Headquartered on the upper floors of 51 Commerce Drive, this agency is responsible for the digital infrastructure that keeps state government running. Established by Executive Order in 2005, MaineIT consolidated IT functions from various agencies to create a more secure, efficient, and cost-effective technology environment for state employees and the citizens they serve.
Core Technology Services
MaineIT employs over 500 IT professionals who manage a vast array of technical services. While their primary ”customers” are other state agencies, their work directly impacts public-facing government services. Key functional areas include:
- Computing Infrastructure: Managing data centers, servers, and cloud computing resources.
- Network and Connectivity: Overseeing the state’s wide area network (WAN) and the MSCommNet public safety radio system used by first responders.
- Cybersecurity: The Security and Risk Management division works tirelessly to protect state data and systems from cyber threats.
- Client Technologies: Providing desktop support, hardware management, and the IT Help Desk for state employees.
- Application Development: Creating and maintaining software applications that enable government business processes.
