Overview
Regulating the Commonwealth’s Cannabis Industry
Licensing and Agent Registration
The Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) is the independent state agency responsible for implementing and administering the laws regarding medical and adult-use marijuana in Massachusetts. Headquartered at historic Union Station 🚉, the Commission serves as the primary regulatory body for the state’s cannabis market. They oversee the licensing process for all marijuana establishments, including cultivators, product manufacturers, retailers, and testing laboratories. Additionally, the CCC manages the registration of agents—employees who work within the industry—ensuring they meet all background check and suitability requirements.
Social Equity and Patient Services
A core part of the Commission’s mission is to ensure that the industry is equitable and inclusive. They administer the Social Equity Program 🤝, which provides training and technical assistance to people from communities disproportionately harmed by marijuana prohibition. The agency also oversees the Medical Use of Marijuana Program, maintaining the database of registered qualifying patients and certifying healthcare providers.
