Employee Advisory Service Overview
The Employee Advisory Service (EAS) is a state-sponsored program administered by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. Located at 200 Wolverton Avenue in Trenton, this facility functions as a confidential assessment and referral center for State of New Jersey employees and their eligible dependents. The EAS serves as the state’s internal Employee Assistance Program (EAP), designed to assist the workforce in resolving personal, family, or work-related issues that may adversely affect job performance, health, or well-being. The program operates on the premise that early intervention and professional support can restore productivity and prevent disciplinary actions.
Counseling and Referral Services
The primary mission of the EAS is to provide a safe and private environment for individuals to discuss sensitive matters. Professional counselors conduct initial intake assessments to determine the nature and severity of the problem. Services cover a wide spectrum of issues, including mental health challenges (such as anxiety and depression), substance use disorders, marital or family conflicts, grief, and workplace stress. While the EAS provides short-term counseling, its main role is to act as a bridge, referring clients to appropriate community resources, treatment facilities, or private healthcare providers covered under their State Health Benefits Plan for long-term care.
Confidentiality and Access
Confidentiality is the cornerstone of the Employee Advisory Service. All records and discussions are strictly protected by state and federal regulations and are not made part of an employee’s personnel file. Participation in the program can be voluntary (self-referral) or mandatory (management referral) based on performance issues. However, even in mandatory cases, clinical details remain confidential. Access to the facility at Wolverton Avenue is by appointment only, ensuring privacy for all visitors. The service is available to all Civil Service employees, and there is no direct cost for the initial assessment and referral services.
Facility Information
The office is situated within the Roebling Complex area, a hub for various state support services. As a government office, visitors should be prepared to show photo identification upon arrival. The facility is designed to be discreet and welcoming, distinguishing it from typical administrative government buildings. It is accessible via public transportation and offers nearby parking options. Employees seeking assistance are encouraged to call the dedicated helpline to schedule an intake interview before visiting the location.
