Overview
NJ Office of Information Technology (NJOIT)
The New Jersey Office of Information Technology (NJOIT) is the central technology organization for the executive branch of the New Jersey state government. Headquartered at the Riverview Plaza complex in Trenton, NJOIT is responsible for the planning, development, and management of the state’s information technology infrastructure. This agency ensures that vital government services are delivered efficiently and securely to millions of residents and businesses. By overseeing the Garden State Network—the statewide data and telecommunications backbone—NJOIT connects virtually every state agency, enabling seamless communication and data exchange. The office plays a strategic role in modernizing legacy systems, implementing cloud-based solutions, and enforcing statewide technology standards to optimize taxpayer resources.
Cybersecurity and Infrastructure
A primary mission of NJOIT is to protect the state’s digital assets through the New Jersey Information Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell (NJCCIC). This division proactively monitors threats, manages incident responses, and establishes security policies to safeguard sensitive citizen data from cyberattacks. NJOIT also operates the State’s primary data centers, providing hosting services (mainframe and distributed), storage, and disaster recovery capabilities for critical agency applications. The office ensures that the state’s technology environment is resilient, scalable, and compliant with federal and state regulations.
Emergency Telecommunications and GIS
NJOIT manages the Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services (OETS), which oversees the statewide 9-1-1 emergency calling system. This critical function involves planning, designing, and maintaining the technical infrastructure that connects callers to Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). Additionally, the Office of Geographic Information Systems (OGIS) falls under NJOIT’s purview, coordinating the creation and maintenance of geospatial data (maps and layers) used for environmental protection, transportation planning, and public safety. These specialized units demonstrate NJOIT’s broad impact on public safety and informed decision-making across the state.
Administration and Access
The NJOIT headquarters at 300 Riverview Plaza is an administrative facility and is generally not a walk-in center for general public inquiries unrelated to official state business or vendor meetings. The complex is located near the Delaware River and requires security clearance for entry. The office primarily interacts with other government agencies (“G2G”) and contracted vendors rather than providing direct consumer services like the MVC. However, it manages the NJ.gov web portal, serving as the digital front door for citizens to access government information and services online.
