The New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center (FIC), located on the W. Averell Harriman State Office Campus, is a state-of-the-art laboratory facility dedicated to providing comprehensive forensic services to the entire criminal justice community of New York. 🔬 Opened in 1996, this facility houses the State Police Crime Laboratory System, which processes evidence for hundreds of local, state, and federal agencies. The center is critical in solving violent crimes through advanced scientific analysis and maintaining the state’s DNA Databank. 🧬
Scientific Sections
- Biological Science: Examination of biological fluids and DNA analysis, including the maintenance of the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) to link serial offenders. 🩸
- Firearms and Toolmarks: Analysis of ballistics, gunshot residue, and the restoration of obliterated serial numbers. 🔫

Investigative Support
