Overview
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) – New York City Field Office
Agency Overview
The ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New York City Field Office, located within the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building at 26 Federal Plaza, is the primary operational hub for federal immigration enforcement in the region. This office is responsible for the identification, arrest, detention, and removal of non-citizens who present a threat to national security, public safety, or border security. The New York Field Office’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) encompasses the five boroughs of New York City as well as Duchess, Nassau, Putnam, Suffolk, Sullivan, Orange, Rockland, Ulster, and Westchester counties. ERO officers here manage the detained docket, coordinate with local law enforcement, and oversee fugitive operations.
Services and Reporting
This facility primarily serves as an administrative and operational headquarters for ERO. It is not a walk-in service center for general immigration inquiries. Key functions include:
- Reporting and Check-ins: Individuals under supervision (ISAP) or those released on bond may be required to report here periodically. Reporting is strictly by appointment or scheduled order.
- Bond and Case Management: The office handles the processing of immigration bonds and the management of cases for individuals in removal proceedings who are not currently detained.
- Community Outreach: The field office maintains a Community Liaison officer to address stakeholder concerns regarding ERO policies and operations in the New York area.
Security and Access Protocols
Access to 26 Federal Plaza is heavily restricted. All visitors must pass through airport-style security screening, including metal detectors and x-ray machines. Valid government-issued photo ID is mandatory for entry. Electronic devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, and recording equipment, are often restricted or prohibited in specific areas of the ERO office. Visitors should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment time to clear security. Do not bring large bags, weapons, or any prohibited items.
