Federal Labor Law Enforcement
The NLRB Region 06 office, located in the William S. Moorhead Federal Building, is responsible for enforcing the National Labor Relations Act in western Pennsylvania and surrounding areas. This independent federal agency protects the rights of private-sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve their wages and working conditions. The Pittsburgh regional office investigates charges of unfair labor practices, facilitates settlements, and oversees the process of union representation elections.
- Union Elections: Conducts secret-ballot elections to determine if employees wish to be represented by a union.
- Investigations: Examines charges filed by employees, unions, or employers regarding violations of federal labor laws.
- Adjudication: Prosecutes unfair labor practice cases before administrative law judges when settlements cannot be reached.
- Information Officer: Provides guidance to the public regarding their rights and responsibilities under the Act.
Visitors to the office must pass through strict federal security screening, including metal detectors and bag checks, upon entering the building.
