Overview
Vermont Office of Child Support (Burlington Region)
The Vermont Office of Child Support (OCS) operates its Burlington Regional Office on the 3rd floor of the Edward J. Costello Courthouse at 32 Cherry Street. As a division of the Department for Children and Families (DCF), this agency is dedicated to improving the financial security of children by establishing and enforcing child support obligations. The office serves custodial parents, non-custodial parents, and guardians throughout Chittenden County.
Services Provided
OCS provides a range of legal and administrative services designed to ensure children receive the financial support they are entitled to:
- Establishing Parentage: Assisting unmarried parents in legally establishing fatherhood through Voluntary Acknowledgments or court actions.
- Support Orders: Helping to file for court orders that determine financial and medical support amounts based on state guidelines.
- Enforcement: Implementing tools to collect unpaid support, such as wage withholding, tax refund intercepts, and license suspensions.
- Modifications: assisting parents in requesting changes to support orders when financial circumstances change significantly.
Access and Security
Because the OCS office is located within a functioning courthouse, visiting the facility requires passing through strict security screening. All visitors must go through metal detectors, and bags are subject to X-ray inspection. Weapons are strictly prohibited. While walk-ins are accepted, it is highly recommended to call ahead or schedule an appointment to ensure a caseworker is available to discuss your specific case. Public parking is not available on-site; visitors should use the nearby Marketplace Garage or metered street parking.
