Overview
Central Command and Station 1
The Burlington Fire Department Headquarters, located at 136 South Winooski Avenue, serves as the administrative center for the city’s fire and emergency services. This facility houses the Office of the Chief Engineer and the department’s administrative staff, who oversee the strategic management, budgeting, and human resources for all five city stations. It is also the operational base for Fire Station 1, the busiest station in the city, covering the downtown district and surrounding neighborhoods.
Emergency Operations
Station 1 is staffed 24/7 by career firefighters and paramedics. The crews here respond to a wide variety of incidents, including:
- Fire Suppression: Combatting structural fires in the high-density downtown area.
- EMS: Providing advanced life support and rapid transport to the nearby University of Vermont Medical Center.
- Specialized Rescue: Serving as a hub for technical rescue operations.
Administrative Services
Residents typically visit the headquarters for non-emergency business such as general inquiries or meeting with command staff. While the station itself is always active, the administrative offices operate during standard business hours. The department is dedicated to community safety through rapid response and comprehensive risk reduction strategies.
