Overview
Boston Transportation Department – Enforcement Division
The City of Boston Transportation Department (BTD) Enforcement Division operates the city’s primary vehicle impound facility and parking enforcement administration center. Located at 200 Frontage Road, this facility acts as the central hub for the Tow Lot and the Office of the Parking Clerk. It is the mandatory destination for vehicle owners seeking to reclaim cars that have been towed due to parking violations, abandonment, or public safety issues within the city limits.
Vehicle Reclamation Services
To retrieve a towed vehicle, owners must visit this location in person. Strict documentation is required:
- Proof of Ownership: A valid registration or title.
- Valid Identification: A government-issued driver’s license.
- Insurance: Evidence of active insurance is often required if the registration was revoked.
- Payment: All outstanding fines, towing fees, and storage charges must be settled before release.
Parking Clerk and Disputes
The facility also houses service windows for the Parking Clerk, where residents can pay parking tickets or inquire about ticket disputes. While many of these services are available online, the Frontage Road location provides critical in-person assistance for complex cases involving towed or booted vehicles. Drivers should note that personal checks are generally NOT accepted for the release of towed vehicles; cash, money orders, or credit cards are the standard methods of payment.
