Concord Economic Development - Concord, NH

Fostering Growth in the Capital City

Business Support and Strategic Growth

The Concord Economic Development Department is the primary municipal office dedicated to strengthening the economic base of New Hampshire's capital city. Located within City Hall on Green Street, the department works proactively to recruit new businesses, retain existing employers, and facilitate the expansion of commercial and industrial enterprises. The team serves as the first point of contact for developers and entrepreneurs, guiding them through the city's regulatory landscape and helping them identify suitable locations for their operations. By fostering a pro-business environment, the department aims to create high-quality jobs, expand the tax base, and maintain Concord's status as a vibrant regional hub for commerce, healthcare, and government.

Financial Incentives and Tax Districts

To attract investment, the Economic Development Department administers several financial tools and incentive programs. A key component of their strategy is the management of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts. These districts allow the city to capture the increased tax revenue generated by new developments and reinvest it directly into infrastructure improvements within that specific area, such as roads, utilities, and streetscapes. The department also assists businesses in navigating eligibility for the Economic Revitalization Zone (ERZ) tax credits and Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which can provide essential funding for job creation and property rehabilitation.

Collaboration and Downtown Vitality

The department works in close partnership with local and regional organizations, including the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce and Intown Concord, to promote the city's downtown as a destination for dining, shopping, and the arts. They play a significant role in the redevelopment of key sites, such as the former Employment Security building and various riverfront properties. Through these collaborative efforts, the Economic Development Department ensures that growth is balanced with the preservation of Concord's historic character and quality of life. They also maintain a comprehensive inventory of available commercial properties, helping to match businesses with the perfect space to thrive.

Data and Site Selection Services

For investors and corporate decision-makers, the department provides critical data and site selection assistance. They offer detailed demographic reports, labor market statistics, and traffic counts that are essential for business planning. Whether assisting a small local startup or a major national corporation, the staff provides personalized support to streamline the development process. Their work includes coordinating pre-development meetings with the Planning Board and Code Enforcement officials to identify potential issues early and ensure a smooth path to permitting and construction.
