Overview
About the Office of the City Representative
The Office of the City Representative (OCR) serves as the ceremonial and marketing arm of the City of Philadelphia. Located in the One Parkway Building, this department acts as the city’s official face for dignitaries, tourists, and the general public. The City Representative functions as the Mayor’s chief ambassador, promoting Philadelphia’s status as a World Heritage City and fostering international relations. The office is also responsible for the city’s branding, marketing strategies, and the production of major civic celebrations.
Ceremonial Documents and Services
One of the most direct services provided to citizens is the issuance of Ceremonial Documents. Individuals and organizations can request official recognition for significant milestones, including:
- Proclamations: For days, weeks, or months of honor.
- Citations: Recognizing specific achievements or retirements.
- Tributes and Letters: For birthdays (over 75), anniversaries (over 50), and family reunions.
Requests must be submitted at least three weeks in advance, and approved documents are typically picked up in person by appointment.
Special Events
The OCR oversees the Office of Special Events, which manages permitting and coordination for public gatherings, parades, festivals, and street fairs. This office produces Philadelphia’s signature events, such as the Wawa Welcome America festival and the Philly Holiday Experience. They ensure that events are safe, compliant, and showcase the city’s diverse neighborhoods.
Visit and Security Information
The office is housed in a municipal government building with strict security protocols. Visitors must present valid photo identification at the ground floor security desk and pass through metal detectors. Appointments are required for meetings and document pickups; walk-ins are generally not serviced without prior scheduling. 🏛️🎉📜🛂🏙️🤝🎭
