About the Office of the City Representative
The Philadelphia Office of the City Representative (OCR) serves as the ceremonial and marketing arm of the city government, acting as the primary promoter of Philadelphia’s civic pride and global image. 🔔 Currently led by City Representative Jazelle Jones (appointed by Mayor Cherelle Parker), this office functions as the city’s ”Chief Ambassador,” managing dignitary visits, international relations, and the city’s status as a World Heritage City. The OCR is responsible for producing and overseeing major citywide events, including the Wawa Welcome America festival, the Philly Holiday Experience, and parades that celebrate the diverse cultures of Philadelphia. 🎊
Ceremonial Documents and Services
One of the most direct services the OCR provides to the public is the issuance of official ceremonial documents signed by the Mayor. Residents and organizations can request these items to recognize significant milestones. Services include:
- Proclamations and Citations: Official documents honoring individuals, organizations, or events for their contributions to the city.
- Tributes and Letters: Greetings from the Mayor for special occasions like family reunions, conferences, or 100th birthdays.
- Ceremonial Flag Raisings: Coordinating flag-raising events at City Hall to honor specific countries or causes.
Location and Visiting Information
The Office of the City Representative is located in the One Parkway Building at 1515 Arch Street, closely integrated with the Office of Special Events. 🏢 Visitors to this municipal building must undergo security screening in the lobby, including metal detectors and bag checks. Valid photo identification is required to check in at the security desk and receive a visitor badge. 📵 While the office handles many public requests, most applications for ceremonial documents should be submitted online or via email at least 3 to 4 weeks in advance, rather than through walk-in visits.
