The Allegheny County Treasurer’s Office is the primary agency responsible for the collection, custody, and investment of county funds. Located on the first floor of the Allegheny County Courthouse, the Treasurer provides essential over-the-counter services to residents, most notably the issuance of various state licenses. The Treasurer is an elected official charged with managing the county’s cash flow and tax revenue systems.
Licenses and Permits
This office is the go-to location for several mandatory licenses:
- Dog Licenses: State law requires all dogs three months or older to be licensed. Lifetime and annual licenses are available here.
- Hunting and Fishing: The office issues licenses from the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Fish & Boat Commission.
- Small Games of Chance: Processes applications for Bingo and Small Games of Chance licenses for eligible non-profit organizations.
- Sportsman’s Firearm Permits: Issues permits valid for hunting and fishing activities.
Tax Administration
In addition to licensing, the Treasurer collects the Hotel Room Rental Tax and the Alcoholic Beverage Tax (Drink Tax). They also collect real estate taxes for Allegheny County properties. The office features cashier windows for in-person transactions, making it one of the most publicly visited offices in the courthouse. Visitors should be prepared for security screening upon entering the building.
