Overview
Department of Innovation and Performance
City Information Systems
The entity formerly known as Pittsburgh City Computer Systems now operates as the Department of Innovation and Performance. Located in the City-County Building at 414 Grant Street, this department is the technological backbone of the city government. It is responsible for managing the city’s IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital services, ensuring that municipal employees have the tools they need to serve the public effectively.
- Infrastructure Management: Maintains the city’s servers, networks, and communication systems.
- 311 Response Center: Oversees the technical implementation of the 311 non-emergency response system.
- Smart City Initiatives: Leads projects related to public Wi-Fi, open data portals, and modernizing city web services.
Public Interaction
While primarily an internal service department supporting other city agencies (such as Police, Fire, and DPW), Innovation and Performance plays a key role in public transparency through the Burgh’s Eye View application and the city’s open data catalog. The department generally does not offer walk-in IT support to the general public but is crucial for the operational efficiency of Pittsburgh’s municipal services.
