Overview
MaineDOT Fleet Services and Region 2 Operations
The facility at 66 Industrial Drive serves as a major operational hub for the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT). Unlike the administrative headquarters on Capitol Street, this site is dedicated to the practical maintenance and management of the state’s transportation infrastructure. Opened in 2015, this consolidated facility houses multiple critical divisions under one roof, improving efficiency and collaboration between state agencies.
Key Operational Units
This location functions as the nerve center for several specialized MaineDOT bureaus:
- Fleet Services: This is the flagship headquarters for managing the MaineDOT’s heavy fleet. The team here is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and deployment of the plow trucks, graders, and heavy machinery used to keep Maine’s roads safe.
- Region 2 (Midcoast) Office: The administrative base for the Midcoast Region, responsible for overseeing highway maintenance, winter plowing operations, and infrastructure projects across central and coastal Maine.
- Sign and Electrical Shop: A specialized manufacturing facility where the state’s highway signs are fabricated and where traffic control devices (signals, flashers) are maintained and repaired.
Shared State Services
In an effort to streamline government operations, 66 Industrial Drive also hosts units from the Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS):
- Central Fleet Management: Manages the light-duty vehicle fleet (cars, SUVs) used by state employees across all agencies.
- Radio Operations: The Office of Information Services manages the statewide mobile radio network for public safety and public works from this location.
- Surplus Property: Handles the decommissioning and sale of state vehicles and heavy equipment that have reached the end of their service life.
Access and Business Hours
This facility is primarily an industrial and administrative work site. It is open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. While it is not a general public service counter (like a DMV), vendors and individuals conducting specific business with Fleet Services or the Region 2 office may visit during these hours. Visitors are typically required to check in at the main reception desk. Free parking is available on-site for employees and authorized visitors.
