Overview
About the ATF Philadelphia Field Division
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Philadelphia Field Division is the regional headquarters for federal criminal enforcement and industry regulation across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Located in the historic Curtis Center near Independence Hall, this division is responsible for investigating violent crimes involving firearms, arson, and explosives. Unlike a local police station, this facility houses Special Agents and Industry Operations Investigators who focus on long-term federal investigations, dismantling criminal organizations, and interdicting the illegal flow of guns.
Regulatory and Investigative Services
The Philadelphia Field Division is divided into specialized groups that handle distinct missions:
- Criminal Enforcement: Investigates armed violent offenders, career criminals, and gangs. This includes the Philadelphia Crime Gun Intelligence Center.
- Industry Operations: Conducts inspections of Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) and explosives licensees to ensure compliance with federal laws.
- Arson and Explosives: Works with local fire marshals and bomb squads to investigate suspicious fires and bombings.
Please note that this office primarily functions as an administrative and investigative hub. It does not offer general walk-in police services for filing non-federal police reports.
Security and Access
As a federal law enforcement facility housed within a multi-tenant building, security is extremely strict. Visitors typically require a scheduled appointment. Upon arrival, you must present valid government-issued photo identification. All guests are subject to airport-style security screening, including metal detectors and bag checks. Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on the premises. 🏛️🔫🔥🕵️♂️🇺🇸📜👮♂️
